Rustic Laundry

In the beginning there was surf - rin - ala- vanish- whatever was handy for the obnoxious mustard y potty stains that seemed to cover every clothing that my son had on. Mommy knew no better than to lay down the laundry rules for the little one. Did it really matter? At that point, i must admit, it did not. Priority was feeding him, changing him and trying to make sense of his colicky self.
Slowly - like really slowly, he started to adapt to his human-ness..the colic was receding, he was satiated, crankiness curbing and finally mommy found time to look around - Oh, Hello World!!
After my foray into cloth diapering, i started to re asses the laundry procedure (the cloth diapers had a laundry protocol much like my chemistry practical class did!!). For optimum cloth diaper performance i needed a detergent that was free of additives, enzymes, softeners, bleach etc. Basically a simple detergent without the frills. Reading up on detergents (who knew life would come to this!), made me realize that if these detergents are not stripped off properly during a wash, the baby clothes can actually cause red - itchy - rashes to the poor little souls..so out went the big brands which hog the tv ad space to the hilt..and in came this not - advertised- well meaning - worth- every - penny brand called Rustic Art. Below is taken from their website, rusticart.in :

We are Nature Lovers! There is no better way of explaining who we are. They say one should be passionate about the vocation one takes! We did exactly that. We set out to share our love for the environment, in style. With Rustic Art we encourage use of products which are closer to nature, pure and capture the real essence of its ingredients.
We believe in living a life which is free of harmful toxins, chemicals and artificial elements. We define this as rustic! To bring rustic-ness to every aspect of our lives is our constant endeavour. Rustic Art is an extension of our passion towards using environment friendly, nature sensitive products.

Don't you want to hug them?? Oh, its just me.. but hello?!! they care about mother earth..well, you won't see Shah Rukh Khan in a bath tub using their soap anytime soon..but this is the real deal people.. I know , i have only used one of their products, Little Laundry for my little one's clothes to go OTT on the brand but using is believing here.

So, Little Laundry is (again copy pasted from their website):

pH balanced, double processed, especially for delicate fabrics like silk, baby clothes, etc. Contains no artificial brighteners, bleach, fillers, enzymes, fabric softener, foam boosters, fragrance, etc. Ingredients:Double processed natural neem soap powder, natural lemon extract, borax, neutralized soda ash and slurry, washing soda. Handmade and Vegan.

My Opinion: Little Laundry does the cleaning job just as well as any other detergent - if not better. Stains of potty and cough syrup also disappear when soaked in warm water for 15 mins or so prior cleaning. it does get slightly rough on hands but does not burn like bleach does. it has a fresh lemony smell but does not retain on the clothes after drying. sad :( does not lather much so you need to strictly tell your maid to not over use it! Don't understand their love for 'Jhaag'.
It costs around 180 INR for 500 gms but it does go a loooong way. I found it on firstcry.com but am sure you will be able to get their products on many websites.

Overall, it is a great product if you are looking for organic options. It is long lasting and IDEAL for cloth diapering.
